Cherry Blossom Side Table

Good Morning! I have been chomping at the bits for today to come because I finally get to share a furniture project with you! Remember the amazing finds I picked up from the yesterday’s haul post? Well I was drawn to one piece in particular to focus on the transformation: the old magazine side table.

As you can see, this piece was pretty drab. The lady at the estate sale was practically giving it away. But the curved top and overall design really intrigued me– I knew I wanted to glam it up a bit and really make it into a show stopper. Luckily, the table was already in pretty good shape, just needed to be brought to life.

For this makeover, I wanted to try Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint since I’d heard so many wonderful things about it. Usually, I make my own homemade version I but was interested to test out the manufactured brand to compare.  Unfortunately,  Annie Sloan is not available at mass retailers which sent me on a bit of a treasure hunt. After going online to track down a store that sold the line, I found a little boutique that had some in stock. However, upon closer inspection I saw that their hours were only from  10am-1pm and they weren’t even opened at all that day. Being impatient and needing paint NOW, I attempted to track down every possible store within a 30 mile radius. No one was open. For those of you wondering, yes they do sell Annie Sloan online which can be conveniently shipped and delivered to your door. However, given the already high price tag, I did not want to pay for shipping.

Just when I was about to give up all hope, I remembered an alternative chalk paint brand I came across on a blog a few months back: Americana Decor. Not only is this paint more affordable than its competitor, it also was listed on the Home Depot website!

Unfortunately, Americana Decor hasn’t made it to the shelves yet and is only available online. However, my local Home Depot had 4 sample colors at their front desk! Yay! I took what I needed, which was almost their whole inventory, and headed home triumphant! I love how the transformation unfolded. Here’s how the piece turned out:

The color I chose for the paint was Americana Decor’s Vintage. It’s a beautiful antique blue/green color that I just love. In fact, the majority of my house is in a color that’s similar! Once the color was set, I knew I wanted to add an extra something for an unexpected punch. I decided to decoupage a beautiful cherry blossom print I came across at Michael’s and trimmed the piece in gold.

Talk about giving something new life. I am in love with this table and can’t stop staring at it when I come home from work each day! I can’t wait to try more paint from Americana Decor. They offer 29 colors total so I’m hoping they start selling them in store soon.

Have any of you used this line before? I’d love to hear your impressions or tips in the comments below!
